Big Comic 45th anniversary commemorative project First published in 1968, Big Comic celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2013. To commemorate this milestone, we have compiled a collection of carefully selected short stories—chosen from the adult-oriented works created in the late 1960s and early 1970s—by eight of the magazine’s “big-name” authors who contributed to its inaugural issues. In January 2013, two volumes—Osamu Tezuka and Shigeru Mizuki—were published simultaneously. The series will continue with one volume per month, featuring Fujiko F. Fujio, Sanpei Shirato, Fujiko Fujio A, Kazuo Umezu, Shotaro Ishinomori, and Takao Saito. Starting with entertainment for children and expanding its readership to include young adults and adults, the origins of manga’s appeal—now beloved worldwide—can be found right here! Volume seven features Shotarou Ishinomori, a man widely regarded as a genius. From period dramas to the teeming nightlife of Ginza’s women, and even science fiction and fantasy… this collection of masterpieces, created with just a single pen, bursts with energy akin to that of a film studio.
